Hair at Henderson - Healthy hair habits.

Bad hair days are a bummer, they really are no joke... However, a good hair day is proven to be correlated with feeling more productive, less stressed, and more socially powerful – Uh-huh honey!

The challenge is our locks are always prone to dullness, damage, dryness, split ends and the list goes on…. Therefore it’s no surprise that our locks require a little TLC to keep them looking fresh. But maintaining healthy hair doesn’t need to break the bank, nor should it take up every inch of your free time (we’re low maintenance gals around here).

So, we’ve put together a few simple tweaks we recommend to all our Hair at Henderson clients to help you live out only your best hair days.

Shampoo twice

Not once, but twice... Say what? That is because the first wash removes any dirt build up (yes please). But it is the second wash where the real magic happens as the cleansing properties in the shampoo are able to do their thing – Bingo!

Dry shampoo trick of the trade

Some people swear by dry shampoo for touching up hair after a sweaty workout or extending the life of a salon blowout. For maximum results when using dry shampoo, give your hair a blast dry with your hairdryer as this helps your hair to soak up maximum oil and product build up.

Wet hair is fragile hair

Your hair is in its most fragile state when wet, and excessive brushing can lead to hair breakages and pesky flyaways. We recommend applying a leave in conditioner before gently using a wide tooth comb or a game-changing Detango brush (go on add one to your shopping cart).

Catch zzz’s with dry hair

Going to bed with wet hair won’t give you a cold, but it can lead to an irritated scalp which can leave you itching and wanting to wash your hair more regularly. Be sure to dry your hair before getting your beauty sleep.

Washing – finding the sweet spot

Washing your hair every day not only strips the colour from your strands faster, it removes all the natural oils leaving you with a greasy mop that you’re going to want to wash again… hmm! Although everyone’s hair is different a good rule of thumb is shampooing your hair two-three times per week max – Give it a go and watch your hair flourish.

Heat protection is your friend.

Using a heat protection spray before using hot styling tools should be as common as applying sunscreen and donning a pair of sunnies. Funnily enough, it’s not! Protecting your hair from heat damage prevents adverse effects including frizzy and unmanageable hair.
